About Sean
Originally from southeastern Pennsylvania, Sean has spent the last eight years living and working in Chicago, IL as a high school art educator and K-12 art education director.
Sean’s interests and areas of knowledge are rooted in critical race theory, feminist and queer theory, culturally responsive teaching, and radical change. Through mixing youth development, aesthetics, social justice, and constructivist learning, Sean has implemented transformative and restorative practices that allow his students to create their own adventure while seeking change, hope, and inspiration.
In addition to teaching, Sean has been actively involved in the field through his own art making, writings, teacher coaching, curricular design, and academic presentations.
Notable achievements and work include winning the Illinois Network of Charter Schools 2021 Teacher of the Year, his panel presentation “Actualizing Anti-Racism: A Radical Classroom Model” at SXSW Edu in partnership with Restorative Practices in Action, participation in the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago Teacher Residency, honoring of the Jim Sheldon Youth Development Award from Association of YMCA Professionals, his upcoming participation in “Alongside Teacher” assembled and edited by Jorge Lucero (2022), and his interview on Edmentum Podcast addressing art education and social emotional learning.
Sean currently holds his Master of Science in Education from Johns Hopkins University (2017) and his Master of Art in Art Education from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2020).
